Our next Pledge to End Racism workshop series will take place Saturday afternoons, 12:30-2:30 pm via Zoom starting March 20 and running through May 1 (we’ll take April 10 off) and is open to anyone who lives in the Hampton Roads area.

In July of 2020, we joined the Black Lives Matter protests that erupted around our community and the country from the front of our building.

Each week participants will be asked to prepare by reading articles and watching videos that cover the major topics of the module.  Participants will be assigned to a small group that will meet each week as part of the two-hour session.

Sessions will also include large group presentations and conversations. We will use Mentimeter, an interactive presentation software accessed via a web browser window, throughout the various sessions to help us share insights with one another and build community.

NOTE: Each participant from a household will need to register separately AND will need their own computer or large tablet with an enabled web camera to fully participate in the small group work.  You will find a second device such as a smartphone helpful in accessing Mentimeter.

Space is currently limited to 21 participants.

Hope you will help us spread the word, and if you haven’t yet had a chance to participate in a Living the Pledge workshop, please make plans to join us!

GOALS

The primary goal of this workshop is to develop confidence in our abilities to:

  • Integrate the Pledge to End Racism into our daily lives
  • Confront racism and bias in our everyday lives
  • Recognize and challenge systemic racism
  • Take leadership in ending racism in our community, our culture, and our lives

EXPECTATIONS

  1. If you sign up, you must attend all six sessions.  (March 20, 27; April 3, 17, 24; May 1)
  2. There will be readings and videos that you will be asked to review before each week’s session.  If you agree to participate, you are agreeing to do that work each week. We will send out links to the initial work a week prior to the first session.
  3. Each participant in a household will need their own computer or large tablet AND an enabled web camera and microphone to fully participate in the small group work using Zoom.  Please contact us if you have questions or concerns about the technical requirements.
